Les nominés pour les MTV Europe Music Awards 2021 (MTV EMA) ont été annoncés le 20 octobre 2021 et dans cette liste, figurent plusieurs artistes africains. La cérémonie de remise des prix au Papp László Budapest Sportaréna à Budapest, en Hongrie se tiendra le 14 novembre.
Amaarae du Ghana, Diamond Platnumz de la Tanzanie, Focalistic de l’Afrique du Sud, ou encore Tems et son compatriote Wizkid du Nigeria ont décroché des nominations dans la catégorie Best African Act.
À l’échelle mondiale, Justin Bieber est le favori avec huit nominations, suivi de Doja Cat et Lil Nas X avec six hochements de tête chacun. La superstar britannique Ed Sheeran et les nouveaux arrivants de l’EMA Olivia Rodrigo et The Kid LAROI suivent de près avec cinq nominations chacun.
« Je suis tellement heureux et fier d’être nominé aux MTV EMA 2021, cela signifie beaucoup pour moi, ma génération, la nation swahilie et toute l’Afrique, je l’apprécie vraiment », a déclaré Diamond Platnumz.
Pour Focalistic être nominé comme le meilleur acteur africain aux MTV EMA 2021 « signifie beaucoup pour moi. Porter ma musique dans le monde signifie que l’amapiano prend le dessus et c’est un grand pas pour le genre et la musique sud-africaine. Faisons plus de bruit et assurons-nous de voter et de ramener celui-ci à la maison », s’est-il exprimé.
Les votes sont ouvertes jusqu’au 9 novembre. La cérémonie de remise des prix sera diffusée en avant-première sur MTV Africa (DStv Channel 130) et MTV Base (DSTV Channel 322) le 14 novembre à 21h CAT (pré-émission) et 22h CAT (émission principale).
